Adelita Grijalva Raises More than $250k in First Ten Days of Campaign

Becomes first candidate in the race to reach signature threshold mere hours after declaring candidacy

Tucson, Ariz. – In a stunning show of momentum and grassroots support, Adelita Grijalva reached the required number of online petition signatures to qualify for the upcoming special primary election within hours of declaring her candidacy. The rapid outpouring of support highlights the enthusiasm for Grijalva’s candidacy throughout the district.

Grijalva, a lifelong Southern Arizonan, public education and environmental advocate, and mother of three, announced her candidacy for the open seat in a video message to voters this morning. Supporters flooded the Arizona Secretary of State’s online petition portal and, before noon MST, it appeared the campaign had reached the signature threshold, making Grijalva the first candidate to qualify to appear on the primary ballot.

“I am humbled and, frankly, blown away by the outpouring of support we’ve received today,” said Grijalva. “This is more than just a campaign. This is a movement by the People, and it’s clear that Southern Arizonans still want a bold, progressive voice in Congress who will fight for working families and stand up to the tyrannical Trump regime.”

The Special Primary Election is scheduled for July 15, with the Special General Election scheduled for September 23. The voter registration deadline for the special primary is June 16, and early voting begins on June 18.
